Honesty, apparently, is not the best quality, especially if you are into cybercrime. According to The New York Times story, Brooklyn rappers Pop Out Boyz released a single, titled “For a Scammer”, which brought attention of law enforcement officers. Police arrested 39 people in the Pop Out Boyz case. They all knew each other and lived in the same neighborhood.
Investigation into the matter allowed prosecutors to identify members of the group and their associates, who were accused of stealing more than $250 000 worth of luxury goods.
According to prosecution, criminals bought credit card data from at least 5 different websites and manufactured credit cards. These cards were used to buy expensive clothing and accessories from Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue. The group made 275 purchases within 55 days from Barneys ($258,000 worth of goods) and Saks Fifth Avenue lost $11,000 worth of merchandise.
