Global packaging group Ardagh reports a cyberattack

Ardagh Group, a global supplier of recyclable metal and glass packaging for brands around the world, has disclosed a security incident, which caused some delays and affected some supply chain operations.

In a press release Ardagh Group said that after detecting the incident it promptly initiated defence and containment procedures and shut down some of its IT systems and applications as a precautionary measure.

“We are progressively bringing key systems back online securely, in a phased manner. This is proceeding according to plan and is expected to be substantially achieved by the end of this month,” according to the company.

Production at all of Ardagh’s metal beverage packaging and glass packaging facilities continued to operate despite the incident. However, Ardagh said that the cyberattack has caused some delays and also affected some other processes, including supply chain operations. The company implemented alternative solutions, such as manual workarounds, to ensure uninterrupted operations.

The glass and metal packaging giant did not provide any details regarding the nature of the cyberattack, or when it occurred. The company said it continues to assess the overall operational and financial impact of the incident and will provide more information “as appropriate.”
