Poland says hackers breached multiple MP’s email accounts

The email accounts of nearly a dozen of members of the Polish parliament were hacked as part of a cyberattack that hit the country in June affecting over 100 email accounts of current and former government officials, including the personal account of the prime minister's top aide Michal Dworczyk, Reuters reported.

According to the country’s counter-intelligence agencies, members of parliament targeted in the attack come from almost every parliamentary opposition grouping. All victims were notified of the breach and received cybersecurity training.

The authorities did not disclose the names of the lawmakers hit in the cyberattack, Reuters noted.

Polish counter-intelligence said that a threat actor known as UNC1151 has been behind the attack, which has been carried out as part of campaign known as Ghostwriter that has targeted Polish politicians in recent months.

Stanislaw Zaryn, the spokesman for the minister who coordinates Poland’s intelligence agencies, claimed the attack was part of a campaign to destabilize politics in Central Europe.

According to Zaryn, some 100 of the more than 4,350 accounts hit in Poland belong to former and current government members, lawmakers and local administration officials.
