GSS, a Spanish and Latin America division of Covisian, which is one of the biggest providers in call center services in Europe, suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted its systems and paralyzed call centers serving its Spanish-speaking customers, The Record reported citing a source with knowledge of the matter.
GSS company provides call centers and automated customer support phone services for organizations and businesses in Spain and Latin America.
According to The Record, the attack, carried out by the Conti ransomware gang, took place on September 18, and impacted call centers and automated customer support phone services for companies and government organizations in Spain and Latin America, including Vodafone Spain, the MasMovil ISP, Madrid’s water supply company, television stations, and a number of private businesses.
In a notification letter sent to its customers GSS said that it took down all affected systems and resorted to using Google-based systems as an alternative.
“None of the applications will be working until the incident is resolved,” the company said at the time.
A Covisian spokesperson said that the attack was limited to GSS’ network only and did not impact company’s customer support services in other European countries. Also, there was “no evidence of leakage of any personal data,” the company said.
Last week, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Security Agency (NSA), and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warned of an increase in Conti ransomware attacks. The agencies said they observed more than 400 attacks on U.S. and international organizations involving Conti ransomware.
