Rosneft Deutschland, a German subsidiary of Russian oil giant Rosneft has reportedly suffered a cyber attack, die Welt newspaper reported, citing Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, BSI).
Although the cyber incident, which took place on March 11, affected the company’s systems, it did not impact Rosneft's business or the supply situation. BSI is said to have offered assistance to resolve the issue. The agency had also issued a cybersecurity warning to other companies in the energy sector.
At present, there is no details on the nature of the incident, or the damage it caused. According to security sources, the hacktivist group “Anonymous” was suspected of being behind the attack which, reportedly was conducted in retaliation for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
