City of London Police have arrested seven people aged 16 to 21 due to their suspected ties to the Lapsus$ hacker group, responsible for a series of cyberattacks on several technology companies, including Microsoft, Nvidia, Samsung, and Okta.
“The City of London Police has been conducting an investigation with its partners into members of a hacking group,” Detective Inspector Michael O'Sullivan told Reuters. “Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with this investigation and have all been released under investigation.”
On March 23, reports emerged alleging that a 16-year-old bot might be the mastermind behind the Lapsus$ operation. BBC reported that the teenager is believed to have amassed a $14 million fortune from hacking, however, City of London Police did not say if this teenager was among the arrested suspects.
City of London Police did not directly name Lapsus$ in its statement. A spokeswoman said none of the seven people arrested had been formally charged, pending investigation.
