Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss's personal phone was hacked by Russian spies, Mail on Sunday reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The cyber actors were reportedly able to gain access to top-secret exchanges with key international partners as well as private conversations and download up to a year’s worth of messages. The messages are believed to have included highly sensitive discussions with senior international foreign ministers about the war in Ukraine, including detailed discussions about arms shipments.
Liz Truss took an uncompromising approach to Russia’ president Vladimir Putin during her time as Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister while the UK has been one of the strongest supporters of Ukraine.
The hack was discovered this Summer when Liz Truss was Foreign Secretary, but the details of the incident was suppressed by the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson. According to a source, the compromise was so severe that the phone was placed in a locked safe inside a secure Government location.
