Chip equipment maker MKS Instruments hit with ransomware

MKS Instruments Inc., a US-based process control instrumentation company, said it suffered a ransomware attack that impacted some of its business systems, including production-related systems.

The company said that the incident occurred on February 3, 2023, and that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.

MKS has temporarily suspended operations at certain facilities as it works to contain the incident.

“The full scope of the costs and related impacts of this incident, including the extent to which the Company’s cybersecurity insurance may offset some of these costs, has not been determined,” the manufacturer said.
