Lumen Technologies hit with two cyberattacks

US-based multinational technology firm Lumen Technologies revealed it has suffered two cyberattacks, including a ransomware attack that has been degrading services for some of the telecommunications company's enterprise customers.

The company said that the ransomware incident took place last week and affected a number of its servers that support a segmented hosting service.

In a separate incident, a sophisticated threat actor accessed a limited number of Lumen’s IT systems, installed malware and stole some of the company’s data.

“Following these incidents, the company took a series of measures to assess, contain and remediate the incidents in accordance with its long-standing cybersecurity protocols,” Lumen said in a SEC filing, adding that the incidents haven't had a material adverse impact on its financial results and its ability to serve customers.

The company said it is continuing to assess the potential impact of both cyberattacks, including whether any personally identifiable or other sensitive information has been exfiltrated.
