The International Monetary Fund discloses cyberattack affecting 11 email accounts

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revealed it suffered a cybersecurity incident on February 16, 2024, that resulted in the compromise of 11 email accounts.

The IMF is a major financial agency of the United Nations, and an international financial institution funded by 190 member countries, with headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“The investigation determined that eleven (11) IMF email accounts were compromised. The impacted email accounts were re-secured,” the funs said in a short statement, adding that there’s no indication that the intruders compromised any assets beyond “these email accounts.”

The organization did not share any additional details regarding the nature of the attack or what threat actors may be behind it, citing the ongoing investigation.
