Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains one medium risk vulnerability.

1) Integer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU110167

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 5.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2007-4965

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

Exploit availability: Yes

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to read memory contents or crash the application.

Multiple integer overflows in the imageop module in Python 2.5.1 and earlier allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly obtain sensitive information (memory contents) via crafted arguments to (1) the tovideo method, and unspecified other vectors related to (2) imageop.c, (3) rbgimgmodule.c, and other files, which trigger heap-based buffer overflows.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
dev-lang/python to version: 2.4.4-r6

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions

dev-lang/python: before 2.4.4-r6
