1) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2011-1579)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data. The vulnerability allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks or obtain sensitive information by using the 2f2a and 2a2f hex strings to surround CSS comments.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.


2) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2011-1580)

The vulnerability allows a remote #AU# to manipulate data.

The transwiki import functionality in MediaWiki before 1.16.3 does not properly check privileges, which allows remote authenticated users to perform imports from any wgImportSources wiki via a crafted POST request.
