Description
This security bulletin contains information about 7 vulnerabilities.
1) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8501)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to read and manipulate data.
The _bfd_XXi_swap_aouthdr_in function in bfd/peXXigen.c in GNU binutils 2.24 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) and possibly have other unspecified impact via a crafted NumberOfRvaAndSizes field in the AOUT header in a PE executable.
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8502)
CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in Heap-based buffer overflow in the pe_print_edata function in bfd/peXXigen.c in GNU binutils 2.24 and earlier. A remote attacker can use a truncated export table in a PE file. to trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
3) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8503)
CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the ihex_scan function in bfd/ihex.c when processing a crafted ihex file. A remote unauthenticated attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
4) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8504)
CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the srec_scan function in bfd/srec.c when processing a crafted file. A remote unauthenticated attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
5) Code Injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8485)
CWE-ID: CWE-94 - Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection')
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to read and manipulate data.
The setup_group function in bfd/elf.c in libbfd in GNU binutils 2.24 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted section group headers in an ELF file.
6) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8737)
CWE-ID: CWE-22 - Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a local non-authenticated attacker to manipulate or delete data.
Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in GNU binutils 2.24 and earlier allow local users to delete arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) or full path name in an archive to (1) strip or (2) objcopy or create arbitrary files via (3) a .. (dot dot) or full path name in an archive to ar.
7) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-8738)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform service disruption.
The _bfd_slurp_extended_name_table function in bfd/archive.c in GNU binutils 2.24 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid write, segmentation fault, and crash) via a crafted extended name table in an archive.
