SB2015031003 - Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows Could Allow Remote Code Execution

Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Memory corruption (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-0081)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to boundary error in Windows Text Services. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted Web site, trick the victim into visiting it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability results in arbitrary code execution on the vulnerable system.

2) Insecure dll. library loading (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-0096)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the way Microsoft Windows parses shortcuts. A remote attacker can place a specially crafted .dll file along with an icon file on a remote SMB or WebDav share, trick the victim into opening that document and execute arbitrary code on the target system with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to compromise vulnerable system.

Note: the vulnerability was being actively exploited.
