Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-8833)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise vulnerable system.
The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error when processing vectors related to the "Authenticate buddy" menu item. <a href="http://cwe.mitre.org/data/definitions/416. A remote attackers can execute arbitrary code.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to compromise vulnerable system.
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2016-2851)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in Integer overflow in proto.c in libotr before 4.1.1 on 64-bit platforms. A remote attacker can use a series of large OTR messages to trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
