Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-10971)

CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H/E:U/U:Amber

The vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.

The weakness exists due to stack-based buffer overflow in the endianness conversion of X Events. A remote attacker can trigger memory corruption and crash or execute code in the context of the X Server.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

2) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-10972)

CWE-ID: CWE-200 - Exposure of sensitive information to an unauthorized actor

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear

The vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information.

The weakness exists due to handling of uninitialized data in endianness conversion in the XEvent. A remote attacker can access potentially privileged data from the X server.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability results in information disclosure.
