Description
This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.
1) Security restrictions bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-7482)
CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls
CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to bypass security restrictions on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the failure to take the argument and environment strings passed through RLIMIT_STACK/RLIM_INFINITY (1/4 of the size) into account when imposing a size restriction. A local attacker can bypass security limitation and perform unauthorized actions.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability results in access to the system.
2) Memory leak (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-10810)
CWE-ID: CWE-401 - Missing release of memory after effective lifetime
CVSSv4: 8.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to memory leak within the virtio_gpu_object_create() function in drivers/gpu/drm/virtio/virtgpu_object.c. A remote non-authenticated attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
3) Privilege escalation (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-7482)
CWE-ID: CWE-120 - Buffer overflow
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.
The weakness exists due to buffer overflow. A local attacker can load a specially crafted Kerberos 5 ticket into a RxRPC key, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with root privileges.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
4) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-7533) Exploited
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to execute arbitrary code with escalated privileges.
The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in the fsnotify implementation in the Linux kernel through 4.12.4. A local user can create an application, which leverages simultaneous execution of the inotify_handle_event and vfs_rename functions and trigger memory corruption and denials of service attack or execute arbitrary code on the target system with root privileges.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a local user to obtain elevated privileges on the system.
Note: this vulnerability is being active exploited in the wild for 32-bit systems in August 2017.
