Description
This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.
1) Denial of service (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6196)
CWE-ID: CWE-674 - Uncontrolled Recursion
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the feed_table_block_tag function in table.c does not prevent a negative indent value. A remote attacker can trigger an infinite recursion flaw in HTMLlineproc0 and cause the service to crash.
2) Denial of service (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6197)
CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists due to NULL pointer dereference flaw in formUpdateBuffer in form.c. A remote attacker can cause the service to crash.
3) Security restrictions bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6198)
CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists due to improper handling of temporary files when the ~/.w3m directory is unwritable. A local attacker can craft a symlink attack to bypass security restrictions and overwrite arbitrary files.
