Description
This security bulletin contains information about 6 vulnerabilities.
1) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-8853)
CWE-ID: CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
CVSSv4: 7.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows an adjacent attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists in the (1) S_reghop3, (2) S_reghop4, and (3) S_reghopmaybe3 functions in regexec.c due to infinite loop. An adjacent attacker can submit specially crafted utf-8 data, as demonstrated by "ax80", and cause the service to crash.
2) XSLoader relative path error in Perl (CVE-ID: CVE-2016-6185)
CWE-ID: CWE-141 - Improper Neutralization of Parameter/Argument Delimiters
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to obtain elevated privileges on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to an access control error in Perl. A local user can load arbitrary code from the current working directory by supplying specially crafted data to the XSLoader component.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in execution of arbitrary code.
3) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-6512)
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to bypass certain security restrictions.
the vulnerability exists due to a race condition in rmtree() and remove_tree() functions within the File-Path module for Perl. A local user can set a mode on arbitrary files via vectors involving directory-permission loosening logic.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to escalate privileges on the system.
4) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6797)
CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition or execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The weakness exists in S_regatom() in 'regcomp.c' due to heap-based buffer overflow. A local attacker can exploit a specially crafted regular expression, trigger memory corruption and cause the service to crash or run Perl code.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
5) Heap-based buffer over-read (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6798)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information or execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The weakness exists due to heap-based buffer over-read. A local attacker can exploit a specially crafted locale dependent regular expression, trigger memory corruption and gain access to potentially sensitive information or run Perl code.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
6) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6913)
CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition or execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The weakness exists due to heap-based buffer overflow. A local attacker can exploit a specially crafted pack() function, trigger memory corruption and cause the service to crash or run Perl code.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
