Description
This security bulletin contains information about 6 vulnerabilities.
1) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-17449)
CWE-ID: CWE-200 - Exposure of sensitive information to an unauthorized actor
CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the __netlink_deliver_tap_skb function in net/netlink/af_netlink.c in the Linux kernel, when CONFIG_NLMON is enabled, does not restrict observations of Netlink messages to a single net namespace. A local attacker can leverage the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability to sniff an nlmon interface for all Netlink activity on the system and read arbitrary files.
2) Use-after-free error (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-17975)
CWE-ID: CWE-416 - Use After Free
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists in the usbtv_probe function in drivers/media/usb/usbtv/usbtv-core.c due to use-after-free error. A local attacker can trigger failure of audio registration, because a kfree of the usbtv data structure occurs during a usbtv_video_free call, but the usbtv_video_fail label's code attempts to both access and free this data structure.
3) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-18203)
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists in the dm_get_from_kobject function due to race condition. A local attacker can cause the service to crash.
4) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-18208)
CWE-ID: CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
CVSSv4: 5.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists in the madvise_willneed function due to infinite loop. A local attacker can trigger use of MADVISE_WILLNEED for a DAX mapping and cause the service to crash.
5) Speculative Store Bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-3639)
CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.
The weakness exists due to race conditions in CPU cache processing. A local attacker can conduct a side-channel attack to exploit a flaw in the speculative execution of Load and Store instructions to read privileged memory.
Note: the vulnerability is referred to as "Spectre variant 4".
6) Privilege escalation (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-8822)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.
The weakness exists in the ncp_read_kernel function due to incorrect buffer length handling. A local attacker can submit specially crafted data from a malicious NCPFS server, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with root privileges.
