Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Covert Timing Channel (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-11057)

CWE-ID: CWE-385 - Covert Timing Channel

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerabiity exists due to a covert timing channel vulnerability during RSA decryption, also known as a Bleichenbacher attack on RSA decryption. A remote attacker can recover a RSA key.

2) Heap Inspection (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-11055)

CWE-ID: CWE-244 - Improper Clearing of Heap Memory Before Release ('Heap Inspection')

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to the decoded PKCS #12 data in heap memory is not zeroized by MES before releasing the memory internally. A local authenticated user can gain access to the unauthorized data.
