Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Denial of service (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-1684)

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear

The vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.

The weakness exists due to a problem within the IBM MQ MQTT Service logic. A remote attacker can trigger an error with MQTT topic string publishing and cause a denial of service attack to be executed against MQTT clients attempting to connect to the queue manager.

2) Code injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-1792)

CWE-ID: CWE-94 - Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection')

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H/E:U/U:Clear

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.

The weakness exists due to a problem within IBM MQ queue manager libraries. A local attacker can inject and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.
