Description
This security bulletin contains information about 7 vulnerabilities.
1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-10880)
CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write
CVSSv4: 6.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a stack-out-of-bounds write in the ext4 filesystem code when mounting and writing to a crafted ext4 image in ext4_update_inline_data(). An attacker could use this to cause a system crash and a denial of service.
2) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-13053)
CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow
CVSSv4: 2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists in kernel/time/alarmtimer.c within the alarm_timer_nsleep function. A local user can trigger integer overflow due to ktime_add_safe is not used and escalate privileges on the system.
3) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-13096)
CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The vulnerability exists in the build_sit_info() function in the Flash-Friendly File System (F2FS) component, as defined in the source code file fs/f2fs/super.c due to boundary error when mounting F2FS filesystems. A local attacker can access the system and mount an F2FS filesystem that submits malicious input in an abnormal bitmap size, trigger out-of-bounds memory read and cause the affected software to terminate abnormally.
4) Null pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-14609)
CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The vulnerability exists in the __del_reloc_root() function, as defined in the fs/btrfs/relocation.c source code file of the affected software due to an invalid pointer dereference condition that could occur when a corrupted Btrfs filesystem image is mounted. A local attacker can mount a Btrfs image that submits malicious input, trigger an invalid pointer dereference condition and cause the service to crash.
5) Null pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-14617)
CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to NULL pointer dereference when the hfsplus_lookup() function, as defined in the fs/hfsplus/dir.c source code file of the affected software, opens a file in a read-only Hierarchical File System Plus (HFS+) filesystem without a metadata directory and with malformed catalog data. A local attacker can mount a malicious HFS+ filesystem image, open a file in the image and cause kernel panic.
6) Improper access control (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-17972)
CWE-ID: CWE-284 - Improper Access Control
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists within the proc_pid_stack() function in fs/proc/base.c due to the Linux kernel does not ensure that only root may inspect the kernel stack of an arbitrary task. A local user can exploit racy stack unwinding and leak kernel task stack contents.
7) Improper input validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-18021)
CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation
CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The vulnerability exists in the arch/arm64/kvm/guest.c source code file due to the mishandling of the sanity check for the KVM_SET_ON_REG IOCTL function. A local attacker can create a malicious Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), cause an illegal exception return and cause the system to crash.
