Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-9199)

CWE-ID: CWE-476 - NULL Pointer Dereference

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error in pdftranslator.cpp in PoDoFo 0.9.6 has a NULL pointer dereference that can (for example) be triggered by sending a crafted PDF file to the podofoimpose binary. It allows an attacker to cause Denial of Service (Segmentation fault) or possibly have unspecified other impact. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-9687)

CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the PdfString::ConvertUTF16toUTF8 in base/PdfString.cpp. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
