Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-14295)
The vulnerability allows an attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow in getElfSections() function in p_vmlinx.cpp via a skewed offset larger than the size of the PE section in a UPX packed executable. An attacker can create a specially crafted file, trigger integer overflow and trigger an allocation of excessive memory.
2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-14296)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing UPX packed files within the canUnpack() function in p_vmlinx.cpp. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
