Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU21031

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 8.4 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:H/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2019-1297

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input when the software fails to properly handle objects in memory in Microsoft Excel software. Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

How the attacker can exploit this vulnerability?

The attacker would have to trick the victim to visit a specially crafted website or open a file.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

Yes. This vulnerability is being exploited in the wild.

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU21032

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 3.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2019-1263

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition when processing untrusted data. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted Excel file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Microsoft Excel: 2010 - 2016

Microsoft Office for Mac: 2016

Microsoft Office: 365 ProPlus - 2019 for Mac
