Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-1297)

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:A/U:Amber

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input when the software fails to properly handle objects in memory in Microsoft Excel software. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability allows remote code execution but requires that a user open a specially crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Excel.

2) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-1263)

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition when processing untrusted data. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted Excel file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.
