This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.

1) Stack-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU16671

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 6.5 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-17740

CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error шт contrib/slapd-modules/nops/nops.c when both the nops module and the memberof overlay are enabled. A remote unauthenticated attacker can trigger stack-based buffer overflow and cause slapd crash via a member MODDN operation.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Improper Authorization

EUVDB-ID: #VU19561

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 3.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2019-13057

CWE-ID: CWE-285 - Improper Authorization

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to incorrect processing of rootDN delegation in the OpenLDAP multi-tenant deployments. A database administrator could use this issue to request authorization as an identity from another database, contrary to expectations.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote authenticated privileged user via the local network (LAN).

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

3) Improper Authorization

EUVDB-ID: #VU19562

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 3.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2019-13565

CWE-ID: CWE-285 - Improper Authorization

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to escalate privileges.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect processing of SASL authentication and session encryption in OpenLDAP. After the first SASL bind is completed, the sasl_ssf value is retained for all new non-SASL connections, allowing to bypass ACLs and obtain access by performing simple binds.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
