Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-12290)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform spoofing attack.
The vulnerability exists due to libidn2 fails to perform roundtrip checks specified in RFC3490 Section 4.2 when converting A-labels to U-labels. A remote attacker can use a specially crafted domain name to impersonate a trusted website.
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-18224)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the idn2_to_ascii_4i() function in lib/lookup.c when processing domain names. A remote attacker can trick the victim to visit a specially crafted website, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
