Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.

1) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU24706

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-7952

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack or execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in "rendersystemdx9.dll". A remote attacker can create a gaming server, invite a victim to this server, because a crafted map is affected by memory corruption and execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service condition on the target system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Dota 2: 7.00 - 7.23e

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

How the attacker can exploit this vulnerability?

The attacker would have to trick the victim to open a a specially crafted file.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU24704

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-7950

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack or execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the "meshsystem.dll". A remote attacker can create a gaming server, invite a victim to this server, because a crafted map is mishandled during a vulnerable function call and execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service condition on the target system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

3) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU24703

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.9 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:P/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-7949

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: Yes

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack or execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the "schemasystem.dll". A remote attacker can create a gaming server, invite a victim to this server, because a crafted map is mishandled during a GetValue call and execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service condition on the target system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.
