Description
This security bulletin contains information about 3 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Off-by-one (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-8443)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to an off-by-one error in the server component responsible for log analysis during the cleaning of crafted "syslog" messages. A remote authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted message, trigger an off-by-one heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
2) Improper Output Neutralization for Logs (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-8445)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to tamper with log files.
The vulnerability exists due to insecure processing of the newline character. A remote attacker can inject nested events into the ossec log and obfuscate data.
3) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-8446)
The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing directory traversal sequences inside syscheck messages. A local user can write a specially crafted message directly to the analysisd UNIX domain socket and overwrite arbitrary files on the system.
