Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-6581)

CWE-ID: CWE-74 - Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component ('Injection')

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber

The vulnerability allows a remote authenticated user to execute arbitrary code.

Nagios NRPE 3.2.1 has Insufficient Filtering because, for example, nasty_metachars interprets as the character and the character n (not as the newline sequence). This can cause command injection.

2) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-6582)

CWE-ID: CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write

CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

Nagios NRPE 3.2.1 has a Heap-Based Buffer Overflow, as demonstrated by interpretation of a small negative number as a large positive number during a bzero call.
