Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.

1) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU28850

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 4.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1261

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition when the Windows Error Reporting (WER) improperly handles objects in memory. A local user can use a specially crafted application, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 10 - 10 2004

Windows Server: 2016 - 2019 2004

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU28851

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 4.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1263

3) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU28852

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 6.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1234

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when Windows Error Reporting improperly handles objects in memory. A local user can use a specially crafted application to trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

4) Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

EUVDB-ID: #VU28853

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 5.5 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1197

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to the Windows Error Reporting manager improperly handles a process crash. A local user can create a malicious application, launch it on the system and delete a targeted file leading to an elevated status.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.
