Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.

1) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU45521

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 6.8 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1417

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing objects in memory within the Windows kernel. A local user can create a malicious application, launch it on the system and execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 10 1709 10.0.16299.19 - 10 2004 10.0.19041.264

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU45528

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 1.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1578

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition in the Windows kernel. A local user can use a specially crafted application, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 10 1803 10.0.17134.48 - 10 2004 10.0.19041.264
