Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.

1) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU46433

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1152

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when Windows improperly handles calls to Win32k. A local user can use a specially crafted application to trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 8.1 - 10 2004 10.0.19041.264

Windows Server: 2012 - 2019 2004

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU46432

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 4.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1250

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the win32k component. A local user can use a specially crafted application to trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 7 - 10 2004 10.0.19041.264

Windows Server: 2008 - 2019 2004

3) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU46431

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 4.4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-1245

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing objects in memory within the Win32k component. A local user can create a malicious application, launch it on the system and execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.
