Description

This security bulletin contains information about 12 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Division by zero (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15266)

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

In GNU Libextractor 1.4, there is a Divide-By-Zero in EXTRACTOR_wav_extract_method in wav_extractor.c via a zero sample rate.

2) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15267)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error in GNU Libextractor 1.4, there is a NULL Pointer Dereference in flac_metadata in flac_extractor.c. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

3) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15600)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dreference error in EXTRACTOR_nsf_extract_method function of plugins/nsf_extractor.c. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

4) Buffer over-read (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-16430)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition in EXTRACTOR_zip_extract_method() in zip_extractor.c. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted archive, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

5) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-20430)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds read in the function history_extract() in plugins/ole2_extractor.c, related to EXTRACTOR_common_convert_to_utf8 in common/convert.c. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

6) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15601)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing data within the EXTRACTOR_png_extract_method function in plugins/png_extractor.c. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted file to the affected application, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

7) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15602)

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

In GNU Libextractor 1.4, there is an integer signedness error for the chunk size in the EXTRACTOR_nsfe_extract_method function in plugins/nsfe_extractor.c, leading to an infinite loop for a crafted size.

8) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-15922)

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

In GNU Libextractor 1.4, there is an out-of-bounds read in the EXTRACTOR_dvi_extract_method function in plugins/dvi_extractor.c.

9) Null pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-17440)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.

The vulnerability exists in the EXTRACTOR_xm_extract_method function in plugins/xm_extractor.c due to an error when processing malicious input. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted GIF, IT (Impulse Tracker), NSFE, S3M (Scream Tracker 3), SID, or XM (eXtended Module) file, trigger NULL pointer derference and cause the service to crash.

10) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-14346)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in ec_read_file_func() function in unzip.c. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted archive, trick the victim into opening it, trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

11) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-14347)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to infinite loop in EXTRACTOR_mpeg_extract_method function in mpeg_extractor.c. A remote attacker use a specially crafted archive file to consume all available system resources and cause denial of service conditions.

12) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-20431)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dreference error in the function process_metadata() in plugins/ole2_extractor.c. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
