Security Advisory

This security advisory describes one high risk vulnerability.

1) XML injection

Risk: High

CVSSv3: 8.5 [CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C] [PCI]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-29599

CWE-ID: CWE-91 - XML Injection

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.

ImageMagick before 6.9.11-40 and 7.x before 7.0.10-40 mishandles the -authenticate option, which allows setting a password for password-protected PDF files. The user-controlled password was not properly escaped/sanitized and it was therefore possible to inject additional shell commands via coders/pdf.c.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.
