Description
This security bulletin contains information about 5 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-25803)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the vlc_input_attachment_New component. A remote authenticated attacker can create a specially crafted .avi file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and cause a denial of service condition on the system.
2) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-25801)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the __Parse_indx component. A remote authenticated attacker can create a specially crafted .avi file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and cause a denial of service condition on the system.
3) Untrusted Pointer Dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-25804)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to untrusted pointer dereference. A remote authenticated attacker can create a specially crafted file, trick the victim into opening it and cause a denial of service condition on the system.
4) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-26664)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in EbmlTypeDispatcher::send() function in VideoLAN VLC media player. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted .mkv file, truck the victim to open it, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
5) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-25802)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition in the AVI_ExtractSubtitle component. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted .avi file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.
