Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-38136)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform directory traversal attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing directory traversal sequences in the "snap_file" parameter in the "/it-IT/splunkd/__raw/services/get_snapshot" HTTP API endpoint. A remote authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request and read arbitrary files on the system.


2) Improper access control (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-38137)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to otherwise restricted functionality.

The vulnerability exists due to the affected product does not correctly check swa-monitor and cns-monitor user’s privileges. A remote authenticated attacker can perform privileged operations and gain access to reserved information.
