Description
This security bulletin contains information about 6 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-38752)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when handling YAML files. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted YAML file to the application, trigger a stack-based buffer overflow and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
2) Deserialization of Untrusted Data (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-42003)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to insecure input validation when processing serialized data when the UNWRAP_SINGLE_VALUE_ARRAYS feature is enabled. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application and cause a denial of service condition on the target system.
3) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-30293)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the WebCore::TextureMapperLayer::setContentsLayer() function in WebCore/platform/graphics/texmap/TextureMapperLayer.cpp. A remote attacker can trick the victim into visiting a specially crafted web page, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
4) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-3171)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input containing multiple instances of non-repeated embedded messages with repeated or unknown fields. A remote attacker can cause objects to be converted back-n-forth between mutable and immutable forms, resulting in potentially long garbage collection pauses.
5) Code Injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-42889)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to an insecure variable interpolation when processing untrusted input. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted input and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
Note, the vulnerability was dubbed Text4shell.
6) Protection Mechanism Failure (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-43403)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass implemented security restrictions.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient implementation of security measures. A remote user can bypass the sandbox protection and execute arbitrary code in the context of the Jenkins controller JVM.
