The vulnerability allows a local application to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to improperly imposed security restrictions during the installation process. A local application can escalate privileges on the system during the installation of GarageBand.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition when importing MIDI files. A remote attacker can trick the victim into importing a malicious MIDI file, trigger an out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.
