Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.

1) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU77064

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.1 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2023-22935

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the SPL Command Safeguards Bypass within the "display.page.search.patterns.sensitivity" Search parameter. A remote attacker can cause a search bypass SPL safeguards for risky commands.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Splunk Enterprise: 8.1.0 - 9.0.3

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

How the attacker can exploit this vulnerability?

The attacker would have to send a specially crafted request to the affected application in order to exploit this vulnerability.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)

EUVDB-ID: #VU77067

Risk: Medium

CVSSv3.1: 5.6 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2023-22936

CWE-ID: CWE-918 - Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)

Exploit availability: No

Description

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform SSRF attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the "search_listener" search parameter. A remote user can send a specially crafted HTTP request and trick the application to initiate requests to arbitrary systems.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker gain access to sensitive data, located in the local network or send malicious requests to other servers from the vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.1 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2023-22939

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the SPL Command Safeguards Bypass within the "map" SPL command. A remote attacker can cause a search bypass SPL safeguards for risky commands.
