SB2023091376 - Multiple vulnerabilities in freeswitch

Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-40018)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds write in ICE candidate handling when processing an SDP offer containing an ICE candidate with an unknown component ID. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted SDP offer to cause a denial of service.

The issue can corrupt memory and lead to undefined behavior.

2) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-40019)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to stack-based buffer overflow in the SDP negotiation logic when processing a re-INVITE with SDP containing duplicate codec names. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted re-INVITE to cause a denial of service.

The issue can be triggered during codec re-negotiation after a call has completed initial codec negotiation. The reproduced scenario requires the mod_av and mod_opus modules to be loaded.

Remediation
