Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Heap-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU55455

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2021-3246

CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error msadpcm_decode_block() function of libsndfile. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted WAV file, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
media-libs/libsndfile to version: 1.1.0

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU63043

Risk: Medium

CVSSv3.1: 4.6 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2021-4156

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the flac_read_loop() function in flac.c. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger an out-of-bounds read error and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
media-libs/libsndfile to version: 1.1.0

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions
