Description
This security bulletin contains information about 5 vulnerabilities.
1) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-9984)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: 9.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.
nscd in the GNU C Library (aka glibc or libc6) before version 2.20 does not correctly compute the size of an internal buffer when processing netgroup requests, possibly leading to an nscd daemon crash or code execution as the user running nscd.
2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2015-20109)
CWE-ID: CWE-120 - Buffer overflow
CVSSv4: 6.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
end_pattern (called from internal_fnmatch) in the GNU C Library (aka glibc or libc6) before 2.22 might allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash), as demonstrated by use of the fnmatch library function with the **(!() pattern. NOTE: this is not the same as CVE-2015-8984; also, some Linux distributions have fixed CVE-2015-8984 but have not fixed this additional fnmatch issue.
3) Memory corruption (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-11236)
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.
The vulnerability exists in the stdlib/canonicalize.c source code in the GNU glibc library due to improper processing of long pathname arguments to the realpath function. A local unauthenticated attacker can send long pathname arguments to a targeted system that is using 32-bit architecture, trigger an integer overflow condition that can lead to stack-based buffer overflow condition and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
4) Off-by-one (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-3999)
CWE-ID: CWE-193 - Off-by-one Error
CVSSv4: 9.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to an off-by-one error glibc getcwd() function. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted input to the application that is using the affected library version, trigger an off-by-one error and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
5) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-2961) Exploited
CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption
CVSSv4: 9.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the iconv() function when converting string to the ISO-2022-CN-EXT character set. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted input to the application, trigger a 4 byte buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
