EUVDB-ID: #VU94197

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 2.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:A/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-39536

CWE-ID: CWE-401 - Missing release of memory after effective lifetime

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to missing release of memory after effective lifetime error in the Periodic Packet Management Daemon (ppmd). A remote non-authenticated attacker can cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS).

When a BFD session configured with authentication flaps, ppmd memory can leak.

Whether the leak happens depends on a race condition which is outside the attackers control.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.
