Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 3 vulnerabilities.

1) Race condition

EUVDB-ID: #VU82200

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 5.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2023-45145

CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a race condition between listen(2) and chmod(2) calls on startup. A local user can exploit the race and escalate privileges on the system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's repository.

Vulnerable software versions

openEuler: 22.03 LTS SP1

redis-debugsource: before 4.0.14-7

redis-debuginfo: before 4.0.14-7

redis: before 4.0.14-7

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU97972

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 4.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-31228

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to due to unbounded pattern matching. A remote user can pass specially crafted input to the application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's repository.

Vulnerable software versions

openEuler: 22.03 LTS SP1

redis-debugsource: before 4.0.14-7

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

3) Stack-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU97970

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 6.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-31449

CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote user to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing untrusted input. A remote user with ability to influence data input can pass a specially crafted Lua script to the database, trigger a stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's repository.
