Description

This security bulletin contains information about 4 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-42971)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing archives. A remote attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted archive, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.


2) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-42970)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the affected system.

The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing archives. A remote attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted archive and overwrite arbitrary files on the system, leading to remote code execution. 


3) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-42992)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input when handling archives. A local user can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted SAR archive and override the permissions of the current and parent directories of the user or process extracting the archive, leading to privilege escalation


4) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-43001)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input when handling archives. A local user can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted SAR archive and override the permissions of the current and parent directories of the user or process extracting the archive, leading to privilege escalation
