Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.
1) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-8851)
CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the readSeparateStripsetoBuffer() function in tools/tiffcrop.c. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted image file to the tiffcrop binary, trigger a stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
2) Memory leak (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-9165)
CWE-ID: CWE-401 - Missing release of memory after effective lifetime
CVSSv4: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform DoS attack on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due memory leak within the _TIFFmallocExt/_TIFFCheckRealloc/TIFFHashSetNew/InitCCITTFax3() function in tools/tiffcmp.c . A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted image to the application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
