CVE-ID: CVE-2025-40778

CWE-ID: CWE-345 - Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity

Exploit availability: Yes

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to poison DNS cache.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient verification of data authenticity when accepting records from answers. A remote attacker can inject forged data into the cache leading to DNS cache poisoning.

Mitigation

Update the affected package bind to the latest version.

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability. However, proof of concept for this vulnerability is available.

2) Predictable Seed in Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG)

EUVDB-ID: #VU117604

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 2.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:L/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2025-40780

CWE-ID: CWE-337 - Predictable Seed in Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG)

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to poison DNS cache.

The vulnerability exists due to weakness in the Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG). A remote attacker can predict the source port and query ID that BIND will use and perform DNS cache poisoning attacks.

Mitigation

Update the affected package bind to the latest version.

3) Resource exhaustion

EUVDB-ID: #VU117577

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 6.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2025-8677

CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application does not properly control consumption of internal resources when querying for data within a specially crafted zone containing certain malformed DNSKEY records.
