Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) UNIX symbolic link following (CVE-ID: CVE-2025-52881)

CWE-ID: CWE-61 - UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following

CVSSv4: 7.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a symlink following issue related to procfs write redirects. A local user can create a specially crafted symbolic link to a critical file on the system and overwrite it with privileges of the application.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in privilege escalation.

2) Improper access control (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-19921)

CWE-ID: CWE-284 - Improper Access Control

CVSSv4: 8.4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to improper access restrictions, related to libcontainer/rootfs_linux.go in runc. A local user with ability to spawn two containers with custom volume-mount configurations, and run custom images can escalate privileges on the system.
